Erratum | My Opinion on the Clinique Chubby Plump&Shine

In my little summer makeup tutorial (here) I talked about one of the new Clinique Chubby Plump&Shine. They are glosses in a solid tube with a twist up base. I was telling you how I didn’t really like them but also that I had only tried one shade. But since then I’ve tried 3 other shades and they’re not all the same so let me tell you about my experience.

In my summer makeup, I used the shade 03 Portly Peach, and I told you that I found it a little sticky, not that shiny and most importantly that the finish was really uneven, unless I used a brush or my fingers to even it out.

All the shades I’ve tried tend to be sticky, and therefore a little uncomfortable and not that amazing that it could justify the stickiness. In all honesty I don’t really like this “new” launch from Clinique. They’re slightly uncomfortable, not very pigmented (even for glosses) and shiny but not that shiny.

But what I want to show you is that not all the shades apply as badly as Portly Peach. Out of the 4 shades I’ve tried, two apply well, one is not great but not horrible (portly peach) and one is really bad. So let me show you a few pictures.

The first shade I’ve tried was Portly Peach* and here’s a close up picture. As I was saying above, it’s a bit sticky and not that shiny, but my biggest problem is how uneven it looks.

It’s quite hard to see it in pictures, but you can sort of see that the product tends to gather in the fine lines in my lips. As the shade is quite light, it’s not that horrible, but in real life it really doesn’t look good.

After trying Portly Peach, I tried Va Va Violet* and with this one I didn’t really have a problem with evenness. The shade is very discreet because very lightly pigmented but the finish is quite pretty.

It’s a shade that I do wear every now and then, but I wouldn’t recommend it, because like I said, I don’t find them that comfortable or that amazing.

The shade Super Scarlet* however is unfortunately very bad. As you can sort of see on the picture below, the finish is very uneven and you can’t make it better with a brush. If you use your fingers, you might be able to even out the finish, but the problem is that it removes quite a bit of the product in the process and the finish result will be even less shiny and almost invisible.

And though I wouldn’t really recommend any of the shades, this one I would clearly say, stay away from it !

And finally, the last shade I tried is the best of the bunch. It’s the shade Jumbo Jem*. It immediately looks very even and you don’t need to use your fingers or a brush to make it look better. But, like all the other ones, the texture is a little still and again, it’s nothing that special.

I don’t often post such negative reviews, and I don’t like to do it. So to conclude on a more positive note, I want to add that Charlotte for instance doesn’t share my opinion and she published a post saying how much she likes the Chubby Plump&Shine. As for me, I really wasn’t impressed with them (especially for the price), but I really like the original Chubby Sticks that I like to use on my lips and as blush sometimes.

Have you tried the Chubby Plump&Shine ? What do you think of them ?
