Cosy Night In with The Man & Candles

I’m happy to say that one of my favourite rituals is back !

The Man and I are back at uni and this means tons of reading for me and some incomprehensible math/programming things for him. We’d both much rather do anything else (including cleaning up the whole house) but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

So we came up with the nicest way to get to work and catch up with our reading (2 weeks in and we’re already behind … I know!)

What we do is we settle comfortably in bed with about 5 thousand cushions/pillows/throws, a few nice candles lit around the room and a cuppa each. Dream !

Then we try to motivate each other to work and it just feels so much nicer to be doing this together rather than at the library.

When we feel like we’ve done enough we put our books to the side and watch an episode (at the moment we’re watching two and half men – not the best serie in the world but still very enjoyable, especially after you’ve been working hard)

The cat seems to agree that the bed is a cosy spot !

When it comes to candles I’m happy to say that I found two that I am really really pleased with (the best I’ve tried so far). They’re the Voluspa candles and I bought them in Anthropologie.

I really like these candles because they kick off a lot of scent and fill the whole room within about 5-10 minutes. They’re not going to burn too quickly either –they’re supposed to last around 100 hours and I’d say that’s about right.

*Quick Tip : My mom always told me that if you store candles for a year or more before burning them they will last longer. I don’t know I’ve never tried to compare but I’m also wondering wether the scent wouldn’t just fade ..?

Baltic Amber is a true rich winter scent. It’s not overpowering. It’s the perfect scent for that time of the year ! Ambery, woody and slightly vanillary.
The sad thing is that it may not be available anymore as I didn’t find it on the website (but they have 3 other scents)

Mokara is more of a summer scent I’d say. To me it smells like monoï and after-sun lotion, like a holiday at the beach. I’ve been burning it a bit more this summer but I’ll still enjoy it in the colder months because the scent is gorgeous anyway.

I’d recommend these to anyone. They’re not the cheapest candles at 26£ but the quality of them (the scent will fill a big room pretty quickly) and the fact that they last very well make them worth every penny ! I haven’t smelled the other two scents but I’ll be sure to check them out next time I’m in Anthropologie.

Do you have any autumn/winter ritual ? What candles would you recommend ?

Is It Chunky Checked Scarf Wheather Yet ?

Call me crazy but I’m actually excited for Autumn and Winter to be here !
Wood fire, tea, candles, warm coats, hot chocolate, cosy night-in, cute slippers, comfy PJs and chunky scarfs. This all screams heaven to me !
Dare I add Christmas ? I know I’m not the only one thinking about it. Is it acceptable to already be excited for Christmas at the end of September ? Probably not. I’ll keep that for later. Oops.
But even though I can see posts about Autumn and Fall on everybody’s blog I’m just not feeling it yet. It hasn’t quite arrived to my part of the world. (Look how green the trees still are and how sunny it is !)
However there already is a slight autumnal vibe in the air and I managed to sneak three autumnal accessories into my outfits.

1. A Pair of Suede Black Boots
These black boots are exactly what I was looking for. I found them on zalando (thank you ever so much Mélody !) and almost had a heart attack when I saw that they were out of stock. Fortunately I managed to track down a pair in my size. The heel makes them a bit more classy but it’s a chunky one (and not too high) so they’re still very comfortable and appropriate for everyday wear. The tassel is a nice touch to make them a bit more unique.

2. A Berry Toned Lippie
I’m not one for very bold lipsticks but Autumn does mean berry toned lip colours. So I use this Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Crush that I just pat on my lips to be left with a sheer wash of colour that lasts (it is a stain after all).

3. The Chunky Checked Scarf
Last but not least my “oh-so-comfy” new scarf ! I picked it up from Pieces which is (I think) a sister brand to Vero Moda that always has very nice accessories. (I found one of my favourite scarf there last year.) I know that I’ll be sporting that one most days this season. I like that it includes many colours and it’s very soft and comfy.
Do you also like Autumn/Fall ? What’s your favourite thing about it ?

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain Review | Love or Hate ?

I picked up the new-ish Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in LA Exclusive back in August when I was in Scotland after hearing Fleur rave about it.
Since then I’ve read very mixed reviews about this one and when I first used it I understood why very quickly. It is a weird lip product !
It is quite thick and gluppy and honestly when you first apply it; it looks awful !
I tried to take a picture of it but it doesn’t translate as well on camera. When you first apply it, it settles into the lines of your lips and looks very uneven and thick. The first time, I tried layering it to make it more even but it only made things worse.
See ? Gross !
The trick with this one is to be patient. Once you applied it (1 layer is enough, try and make it as even as possible) you wait a few minutes and tadaaaa ! I don’t understand how it works but it does.
The formula sort of melts into your lips (becomes slightly darker as well) and everything looks smooth and perfect.
It still feels thicker than your usual lip product but it’s not sticky and has a beautiful shine to it.
What I like the most though is the lasting power. Not only does it last extremely well (probably due to its thickness) it also fades very nicely. You won’t be left with just a line on the outside of your lips as this product fades very evenly !
How unflattering are these close-up shots ?!

One thing I didn’t like (apart from the fact that you can’t just put it on and run out the door (I’m not sure I can trust it so I always make sure it melted nicely into my lips before I start smiling confidently)) is the shade selection. I don’t think it’s bad per say I just didn’t find any other shade that I liked (but I really like this one and one is enough … I guess)

All in all I love it ! I don’t mind waiting a couple of minutes for a product that is going to last that well on my lips !

Have you tried these ? What side are you on, love or hate ?

Sunday’s FOTD With a Bunny

Here is a quick post to show you this sunday’s face of the day.

I didn’t put a lot of makeup on today but I wanted to do something slightly more colourful than my usual brown eyeshadow.

But let’s start at the beginning.
My base is the new YSL Fusion Ink foundation. I haven’t bought it (yet) but the lady at the makeup counter was nice enough to give me a little sample. It’s my first time using it and I’m loving it ! It is incredibly lightweight with a decent coverage. The finish is more on the matt side (which is what I like) and it seems to last pretty well (don’t quote me on that though because I haven’t worn it for a very long time yet). I then used my Collection Lasting Perfection concealer (which isn’t on the photographs for some reason) to cover the breakouts I’ve been having lately.

I gave my cheeks a bit of colour with the Body Shop Honey bronzer and the Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Frisky. I like this blush because it gives a really healthy glow and has a tiny bit of shimmer running through.

On my eyes I used three colours from my Urban Decay Glinda Palette (limited edition, sorry !) I used the bottom-left peachy shade all over the lid with a hint of the kaki (bottom-right) shade in the outer corner and a dash of the purple (upper-left) along the lash line and I then accentuated that purple line with the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on eye pencil in Rockstar. (I heard that purple makes green eyes stand out.)
I coated my lashes with Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes mascara (not on the pictures either – can you tell I’m very distracted today ?!)
On my brows I used my trustee Soap&Glory Archery in Love is Blonde (I’ve seen a version that has a spoolie included … Is that for real ? Can’t wait to go back to the UK !)

On my lips I patted a Clinque Chubby Stick in Super Strawberry on top of my lip balm just to give them a little something something.
Lastly I sealed everything in with the Soap&Glory One Heck of a Blot powder and the Urban Decay All-Nighter setting spray.
All I did to my hair is have it wind-swept all day.

And I had my little winged eyeliner Princess with me to help me take the photographs. Isn’t she a beauty ?!
How’s your sunday ? Excited for the week ahead ?

1st Alphabet Bags Order

The 10th time I saw that “You Look Lovely Today” clutch in a blog post I knew I was going to have it. It was just a matter of time.

It must have been Lily Pebbles or Viviannadoesmakeup who pushed me over the edge. But anyway upon seeing it for the 11th time I followed the link and landed on the Alphabet Bags website.

I had a snoop around and ordered that clutch for myself and a little something for The Man whose birthday was yesterday.

They came in a giant envelope wrapped in brown paper with two really cute postcards (and lovely stickers). I was already in love.
It isn’t much but it makes all the difference compared to other online services (I think). It’s just that little extra effort that makes you go “awwww” (they could have just shoved them in the envelope and sent them away)

I seriously like the quality of these. They’re made of a quite thick material and feel very sturdy. The zip ain’t breaking anytime soon ! Also the inside is lined and can be wiped clean – very handy if you ask me. The writing as well seems like it won’t chip or fade. The finish is perfect and that’s all I can say at the moment because neither of us have used them yet.
All in all I’m very impressed by this small family business. I’m very happy with my order and will probably order some more for birthday or christmas presents.
I also really like their sister website The Calm Gallery for prints, postcards and tea towels. This is probably where my next order is going to take place.
Is there a design that really caught your eye ? Does their gallery also make you want to redecorate ?
